After graduating from Mission House/Lakeland College in 1952, I went to Eden Seminary in St. Louis. I was never near any of my Mission House/Lakeland classmates; however, more than 50 years after graduation, I continue to stay in touch with several of them through Christmas cards, emails, phone calls and home visits. These are true friendships that have lasted through the years.
It was a great joy to have the Lakeland College choir sing at the Church of Peace in Rock Island, Illinois, where I served as pastor for 26 1/2 years. What a proud moment it was when I was invited to join the choir in singing the Alma Mater. Indeed, the words ring true. The Zeta Chi members treated me like family.
It was a privilege to share in the campus life at Mission House. I played basketball, baseball, ran track and participated in plays, winter carnivals, fraternity and fellowship groups. I also got a good education from dedicated and memorable teachers and professors. I was ordained in 1956 and served as a Youth Associate in California. I also served UCC congregations in Indiana, Missouri and Illinois before retiring in 1995. My daughter, Laurie, attended Lakeland for two years, and my son, Paul, graduated from Lakeland in 1985.
