Faculty Quotes from the 1940s

Coach Marinus Kregel painted, in one-foot high letters on the men's locker room wall between the shower room & the dressing area, these words which I will never forget:

YOU CAN IF YOU WILL

-

Ruben Grosshuesch '43 shares that Coach Kregel once posted the following in the locker room:

WE ARE CHUMPS!

After the team won the football championship, he changed it to read:

WE ARE CHAMPS!

-

“Two half wits never make a whole wit." - Dr. Karl J. Ernst

-

"He who stays up late with the daughter can't get up with the son." - Dr. Louis Hessert

-

In Psychology I, Professor Hessert asked junior Virginia (Engelking) Wierwill, "Do you follow me?" When she replied, "No," Hessert responded, "You better not. I'm a married man."

-

We learned that if you had fully prepared your lessons & wanted to get called on by Professor Hessert, all you had to do was look out the window. The next question would be directed to you. On the other hand, if you were not prepared, all you had to do was keep looking at Professor. He would never call on you.
