After graduating from Lakeland College in 1967, I taught social studies in the Illinois public school system for two years. I then began what turned out to be a 35 year career in journalism/newspapers. Starting with the Chicago Tribune in 1970 and then Harte-Hanks Communications in 1975; I joined the Gannett Co. in 1979. I served as publisher of The Times (Gainesville GA - 20,000 circulation) from 1984-86 and then was named publisher of The News-Leader (Springfield MO - 75,000 circulation) from 1986 to 1989. The Times was named the best newspaper in Missouri in 1989 (ahead of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Kansas City Star) for the first time in its history by the Missouri Press Association.
Beginning in 1990, I founded three Business Journals including Springfield IL and Pensacola FL and published them through my retirement in 2005.
I now reside with my spouse Patricia on 10 acres near Pensacola FL.
In addition, I have many great memories of Lakeland and Elkhart Lake/Road America. Howie and Roma's was a favorite hangout during my college years!
